海外留学生からのコメント

当講座に、武漢大学医学部生Zhang Jianjian(チャン ジャンジャン)さんがご留学されました。

My name is Zhang Jianjian, a medical student from Wuhan university in China, it is really a great honor for me to study in Fukushima Medical University hospital, especially in the Department of Urology. Then I will show some aspects of my life in FMU.

<1> Office

The office building and inpatient building are completely separated buildings, and the Laboratory is opposite the office on the same floor. If there is no operation, doctors can take a rest, read articles, write papers in the office. Compare with that in China, perhaps the greatest difference is that there are two secretaries here. They can deal with many trivial things, for example, remind doctors what to do by using sticky note. Also, they will prepare for the delicious afternoon tea and snacks. So, the secretary really helps doctors to ease the pressure to a great extent. I really appreciate Mrs Yamada and Mrs Kurosu for helping me blending in the big family of Urology.

<2>Outpatient&Inpatient

As for the Outpatient, FMU hospital is the third-degree hospital, there are few patients here, and in the high probability, their conditions are very terrible. The outpatients have enough time to cousult with doctor, in other words, the doctor has enough time and patience to do the inquiry. Maybe these benefit from the perfect hierarchical medical system which makes full and rational use of medical resources.

I still remember a patient with prostate cancer in the early stage, his diagnose was specific. But when he brought his medical history and biopsy report to consult Dr. Ogawa, Ogawa sansei explained to him about how prostate cancer develops, how to cure this cancer, and what the prognose and complication are. It took almost 40 minutes. But in China, there are always more than 100 outpatients in the morning, especially on Monday, so every patient only has 5~10minutes to talk with doctor on average. Only when he needs to be hospitalized, will we explain to them in detail.

The picture shows Dr. Ogawa performed the Cystoscopy for the outpatients.

After visiting the inpatient room, I can’t help being attracted by pretty comfortable and pleasant environment. Every patient has his or her own unique diet from preoperative to postoperative.

As for the morning conference, in general, residents will review the cases half an hour earlier before the conference starts. When the conference starts, typical cases and operations will be discussed, then doctors will prepare for the patient rounds. It’s worth mentioning that the schedule of operations in the next few weeks will be written on the board. During the patient rounds, doctors needs to perform physical examination, wound dressing, extract the peritoneal drainage pipes to the patients especially the post-operation patients.

<3>Operation room

I will never forget the scene to observe the operation by Da Vinci Robot, the performer sits on the control board which is not sterile to control the remote artificial robots. In this way, the operation can be more accurate, in the meanwhile, there is also less post-surgical pain, trauma and bleeding with the procedure. Maybe the only weakness is the whole process takes too much time, but it is really good for the patients. But in China, as we mentioned before, we have 10 operations a day from morning to the night sometimes, such as Renal calculus, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, renal cancer, so time is limited. Not only the surgery itself impressed me, but also Prof. Kojima and the medical team amazed me. Before the operation starts, Prof. Kojima always communicates with the students about detailed explanation on surgery procedures, which makes the students understand as much as possible. Since I can’t understand Japanese, he usually gives me a very clear explanation of how to perform this operation in English. I really felt grateful!

Undoubtedly, it is because of the comfortable environment, superb surgical team, advanced equipment and humanistic care make patients feel “I will recover some day”,instead of “I am probably going to die”.

<4>Party!

Every Friday, Dr.Ogawa took me out for drinking in the special Japanese Izakaya. He told me Japanese people always drink in two or three restaurants at night, and they didn’t go home until they got drunk. Although I can’t understand Janpanese, I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.

Joyous time always flies fast, I won’t forget this wonderful experience. Hope to see you again in the future! またお会いするのを楽しみにしています!

Thank you again for everything here. Best wishes to Prof. Kojima, Assoc. Prof. Haga, Dr. Ogawa, Dr. Kataoka, Dr. Akaihata, Dr. Sato, Dr. Yabe, Dr. Hata, Dr. Koguchi, Dr. Hoshi, Dr. Matsuoka, Dr. Honda, Dr. Tanji, Dr. Onagi, Dr. Meguro, Dr. Matsuoka, Dr. Imai, Dr. Yoshida, Mr. Hiraki, Mrs.Watanabe, Mrs. Yamada, Mrs. Kurosu. Best wishes to Department of Urology!
